About Me

Fernando Hinojosa

Rooted in Alvin ISD

I am a proud Alvin ISD Alum, and this district helped shape who I am today. My parents immigrated from Mexico in pursuit of a better life, and I grew up in a hardworking, Spanish-speaking household. I attended Alvin ISD schools, participated in bilingual education, and experienced firsthand the power of teachers who believe in their students and open doors of opportunity.

I became the first in my family to graduate from college, an achievement that changed the trajectory of our family’s future and strengthened my belief in the power of education to transform lives.

Engineering Perspective. Proven Leadership.

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Tyler and later a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University. My engineering background taught me to approach complex challenges with analytical thinking, disciplined planning, and a focus on measurable results.

I began my career in engineering, including offshore work with Chevron, before serving in federal legislative and policy roles in Washington, D.C., where I worked on research, oversight, and workforce development initiatives. Those experiences gave me a strong foundation in governance, accountability, and responsible decision making.

Leading in Education

I returned home to serve as an AP Physics teacher in Alvin ISD, where I was honored to be named District Rookie Teacher of the Year. I was later promoted to Science Department Head and Instructional Coach, leading instructional strategy, supporting teachers and staff, and strengthening STEM pathways for students.

Beyond the classroom, I have led large-scale STEM and workforce development initiatives at the nonprofit level, managing million-dollar budgets, overseeing cross-functional teams, and partnering with school districts, universities, and industry leaders to connect education to real-world opportunity.

Family and Service

Today, I am a husband and father of three, raising my children in the same district that invested in me. My wife is also an engineer, and together we believe deeply in the importance of strong schools and meaningful opportunity.

I have also proudly served for four years as an Alvin Volunteer Firefighter. That experience has strengthened my commitment to safety, accountability, and stepping forward when our community needs leadership most. I bring that same dedication to protecting and serving Alvin ISD students, families, teachers, and staff.

I believe in showing up for students, supporting teachers and staff, and partnering with parents to ensure every Alvin ISD family is supported and every student is future ready with strong academics, practical skills, and meaningful opportunities.

Clear priorities for strong schools

Priorities for Alvin ISD

Strong Academics and Preparing Students for the Future
  • Move Alvin ISD from a B rated district to an A rated district by improving academic outcomes across all schools
  • Ensure every student is prepared for the future, including economically disadvantaged students and those in special education
  • Expand STEM, career and technical education, and hands-on learning opportunities, while partnering with local businesses and organizations to provide real-world experiences
Support for Teachers and Staff
  • Ensure teachers have the resources and support they need while reducing unnecessary burdens
  • Recruit, retain, and invest in high-quality educators who make a difference in the classroom
  • Keep our schools safe with clear processes and strong communication so students, staff, and families feel informed and supported
Responsible Leadership and Community Commitment
  • Be responsible with taxpayer dollars by doing more with what we already have while planning for continued growth
  • Bring real-world problem solving, transparency, and accountability to board decisions, including supporting a strong transition to a new superintendent
  • Be present, engaged, and committed to serving all students, families, staff, and our community, and ready to put in the work to make our schools better
Guided by service and accountability
